This Weeks Top Tip - Reducing Stress Before Time Off
We are entering annual leave season – and we all know that taking time off should be restorative… But for many working in ASB roles, it can feel like just another thing to stress about when you have active case loads and a never ending to do list.
This week’s tip comes from partner Darren Burton who encourages us all to plan time off proactively:
- Communicate early: Let colleagues and partners know your dates well in advance.
- Leave a handover: A short summary of open actions and key points helps reduce pressure on others and gives you peace of mind.
- Set boundaries: If you’re off, really be off. Set an out-of-office, mute notifications, and trust your team.
- Plan your return: Block out an hour on your first day back with no meetings. Use it to catch your breath and review what’s needed – not dive straight into the deep end.
- Record a voice note to yourself before you log off. A quick “here’s what I was working on, here’s what was on my mind” can ease the transition back and reduce the pressure to remember everything.
You deserve a break that feels like a break – and a return that doesn’t undo all the rest you just had.

We hope you had a relaxing Easter break and are making the most of this slightly shorter working week! While it may have been a quieter few days for some, behind the scenes it’s full steam ahead as planning ramps up for this year’s ASB conference.
