New Victims Commissioner Report Highlights Worrying Statistics

A new report from the Victims’ Commissioner highlights widespread dissatisfaction among crime victims with the criminal justice system in England and Wales. Based on a survey of over 3,000 victims, the report found that 73% lack confidence that reporting a crime will lead to justice. Disabled victims, in particular, expressed high levels of dissatisfaction, with many feeling neglected or poorly treated by the police.
The report calls for significant reforms, including better compliance with the Victims’ Code, improved communication with victims, and tailored support services for vulnerable groups which would be widely welcomed by ASB practitioners who see first hand the frustrations and impact of the current approach with victims. The Victims’ Commissioner urges immediate action to ensure victims receive the respect and justice they deserve. You can read more about the report and the comments from Baroness Newlove, The Commissioner here
Participants Needed for Research on Resettlement Challenges – Your Input Can Make a Difference…
There is an opportunity to contribute to research that could significantly impact the resettlement process for individuals with serious long-term mental conditions transitioning from prison to the community.
Shaine Sargis, a master’s student at Durham University studying Criminology and Criminal Justice, is conducting research to better understand the challenges faced during this critical transition period. Shaine is looking for participants who have direct experience or work within this area and are willing to share their insights.
If you have experience or knowledge in the resettlement of individuals with serious mental health conditions, Shaine would like to invite you for a 45-minute interview. Your participation could provide valuable insights that help shape better support and services for these individuals. If you or someone you know might be interested in contributing to this research, please reach out to Shaine directly on shaine.b.sargis@durham.ac.uk. Your involvement would be incredibly beneficial in making a real difference.
