Neurodiversity & ASB: New Resources for You!

This week, ASB Awareness Week has sparked so many important conversations and shared insights across the sector. We wanted to add our contribution by highlighting an area that’s becoming increasingly relevant: Neurodiversity in ASB case management.
Did you know that around 1 in 20 people are believed to have ADHD? For ASB professionals, that means it’s highly likely that you’ll work with individuals – whether victims, witnesses, or alleged perpetrators, who are neurodiverse. However, many traditional systems and processes don’t always account for the challenges neurodiversity can present.
This is a topic close to the heart of our partner, Janine Green, who was diagnosed with ADHD in 2022. Drawing on her personal and professional experience, Janine has explored how adjustments to processes, policies, and communication can help us better support neurodiverse individuals.
To support these efforts, we’re excited to share the following resources:
A Practical Webinar: Neurodiversity & ASB
In this session, Janine discusses how neurodiverse traits, like justice sensitivity and executive functioning challenges, can affect ASB cases and what we can do to make processes more inclusive. Topics include:
- Offering flexible communication options beyond phone or in-person reporting.
- Reconsidering mediation approaches to reduce anxiety for participants.
- Making simple adjustments to reporting processes to improve accessibility.
An Insightful Article: ADHD and ASB
This article dives deeper into how ADHD-specific traits can affect those involved in ASB cases and offers practical adjustments you can make today.
A Word From Partner Janine…
As the understanding of neurodiversity grows, so does the need for our systems to reflect that awareness. Even small changes – like offering alternative communication methods or being mindful of executive functioning challenges, can make a huge difference in the support we provide and the outcomes we achieve.
We hope these resources inspire you to think about how we can make ASB case management more inclusive. If you’d like to discuss this topic further or explore ways to embed these practices into your work, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
