Just 8 Weeks To Go Till The #ASB11 Conference!
Co-location has become a buzzword in our sector, but at #ASB11 we’ll be asking: what does it really look like when agencies share space, responsibility and decision-making?
Katie Mellon from Solace will be lifting the lid on their co-located, multi-agency model – a service built on collaboration rather than silos, with outcomes to prove its effectiveness. Delegates will hear what it takes to make this kind of partnership work, the pitfalls to avoid, and the tangible benefits for both practitioners and communities.
This is just one example of the practical, on-the-ground insight built into the #ASB11 Conference programme. From the national roll-out of Clear, Hold, Build, to strengthening the Victim Voice, to the latest developments in legislation and guidance, the day is designed to help practitioners at every level take away tools, strategies and connections that will shape their work long after the event.
Partnership isn’t just the theme of the conference – it is the focus of every session. If you want to see how others are making it work in practice, and bring those lessons back to your organisation, this is the event you cannot afford to miss.
Early bird tickets pricing closes 31.08.25 – secure your space and be in the room and part of the conversation.

New Research Project Into Cuckooing
Cuckooing is one of the most complex and damaging forms of exploitation linked to county lines. Vulnerable people find their homes taken over by organised crime groups, often through coercion, threats and violence. The impact is devastating for individuals and communities, yet research into how cuckooing happens and how best to tackle it is still at an early stage.
That is why the N8 Policing Research Partnership and Research England have funded a major study led by Dr Laura Bainbridge at the University of Leeds. Working with partners including West Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Police, Leeds City Council and Horton Housing, the project is looking at:
- How victims are targeted and exploited
- The lived experiences of victims and perpetrators
- What works in prevention and disruption
The work is already generating practical outputs, including toolkits for professionals, awareness campaigns and even a virtual reality training tool that helps frontline staff spot the warning signs when entering someone’s home.
A dedicated Cuckooing Research and Prevention Network has also been established, bringing together academics, practitioners and policy makers to share knowledge and influence national policy. The network is also campaigning for cuckooing to be recognised as a specific criminal offence in the Crime and Policing Bill.
For practitioners, this research will provide fresh insight and practical resources to strengthen responses on the ground.

New Research Into ASB Risk Factors
The Home Office has published new research exploring the risk and protective factors that influence whether someone goes on to perpetrate anti-social behaviour. Conducted by Ipsos UK, the study brings together national interviews and local workshops to provide fresh insights into both young and adult perpetrators.
Key risk factors identified included:
- Poverty and deprivation
- Mental health issues
- Drug and alcohol misuse
- Trauma and childhood adversity
- Home and family environment
- Education and schooling
- Peer pressure and group mentality
Protective factors highlighted included:
- Stable and supportive home environments with positive role models
- Engagement in education and schooling
- Access to support services and youth provisions
- Strong local community cohesion
- Environmental measures such as CCTV and visible policing
- Appropriate use of sanctions
The findings underline the importance of tackling root causes, rather than focusing only on symptoms, and stress the need for a joined-up, multi-agency approach. The research will help shape future interventions and national policy, from early intervention work to community-based responses. You can read the full research here.

Janine joins as guest on The Social Housing Round Table
Last week our partner Janine was invited as a guest on the latest episode of The Social Housing Round Table: Female Leadership in Social Housing – A Question of Trust.
In the discussion, Janine explored what leadership really looks like across the housing sector, far beyond the boardroom. She spoke about the importance of calling out poor practice, inspiring confidence in others, and creating a culture where people can grow.
With stretched resources, rising complaints and increasingly complex cases, Janine’s message was clear: leadership is not defined by a title, but by the everyday choices we make and the behaviours we model.
Thanks go to Case Management Solutions Group Ltd and Alertacall Ltd for sponsoring The Social Housing Round Table and making these important conversations possible.

ADR Mediation Online Conference – 30th September
Our colleagues over at ADR Mediation are hosting a brand-new online conference this September, designed to be interactive, practical and rooted in real-world experience, and we are proud to share it with you.
Unlike large-scale webinars, this event is deliberately small in scale, with just 50 delegates and 12–13 people per session, giving you the chance to work closely with experienced trainers and peers. Across the day you’ll rotate through four workshops, covering:
- Key Psychological Concepts Used by Mediators with Diane Nicholson
- Neurodiversity in Mediation with Marie Coombes
- Restorative Made Easy: Building Trust & Reducing Conflict at Work with Emma Goddard
- Why ASB and Neighbourhood Management Policies Should Include Mediation with Cathy Chattaway
Whether you work in housing, communities, workplace mediation or training, this is an opportunity to strengthen your skills, build confidence and connect with like-minded professionals. Visit their website to find out more and book your space for just £99!
Janine & Darren’s Weekly Round Up
As ever, it has been a busy week across the sector. From new research on cuckooing and ASB risk factors, to the countdown to The #ASB11 Conference, it feels like there is no shortage of learning, change and opportunity to take in.
What stands out for us is how all of these strands connect back to the same challenge: partnership. Whether it is police, housing, health or community services, none of us can tackle these issues in isolation. The work highlighted this week shows just how much stronger our responses can be when we share insight and build solutions together.
With just eight weeks to go until #ASB11, a quick reminder that early bird pricing closes on 31 August. Make sure you book before then if you want to take advantage.
Alongside the Conference, there are lots of opportunities to learn and get involved with us here at Green & Burton – from the Liverpool Community Housing Summit Fringe Event to our upcoming training sessions. You can see the full programme of events on our website.
Next week we have a special edition of the newsletter – bringing you all of the highlights from this year so far! Have a great week…
Janine & Darren
