Practical Help During Firework Season and Important Rulings In This Weeks Update…

It’s Firework Season…
With firework season upon us, we know it can be one of the busiest—and sometimes most challenging—times of year as ASB professionals. From Bonfire Night to New Year’s Eve, communities everywhere are gearing up to celebrate, but we often see an unfortunate rise in firework-related ASB during this time. The unexpected bangs, late-night displays, and potential misuse of fireworks can lead to sleepless nights for residents and added strain on local resources.
To support you with this, we’ve put together a practical guide, with insights into managing firework ASB, tips on enforcement, and ways to keep communities informed. We hope this guide helps you to prepare and be responsive – check it out and do share with your colleagues if you think it useful…

Janine & Darren’s Weekly Round Up
After a much needed break, we’re back and we have been catching up on some key developments in ASB management from the past week…
The recent rulings in Hajan v Brent and Kerr v Poplar HARCA is something we will be diving into this week and can provide you with some insight and a “what it means for us” article. If you have had a chance to dissect it already then please do let us know your thoughts on the outcomes – hit reply and share your insights.
We also saw the news that Haringey Council have reported on, with their recent success from implementing a unique closure order—which led to a 98% reduction in ASB on an estate (read the full article here). This is a powerful example of how targeted action can transform neighbourhoods. It underscores the potential of closure orders in addressing entrenched ASB issues, providing immediate relief and long-term benefits for affected communities. The impact achieved here highlights the importance of using all available tools in a strategic way, and with other recent reports showing similar results in Spalding, Oxford and Teeside there are some great case studies building up on the effectiveness of this tool.
We can’t believe that November is nearly upon us – in November we have ASB Awareness Week – watch this space for more news from us on this!
Have a great week,
Janine and Darren
