Final Call For Consultation On Reforms To Social Housing Allocations
It is your final chance to influence the legislation on the three strikes and you’re out policy! This is a crucial opportunity to have our opinions incorporated into the proposal amendments. If you haven’t seen it before, this consultation is seeking views from local housing authorities, social housing landlords, tenants and applicants on proposals to amend social housing allocation rules. Perhaps more controversially, the consultation also asks for views on the proposal to force a landlord to seek possession where there has been use of 3 of the tools in the ASB toolkit. The deadline for contributing is midnight on the 26th March – click here to submit your views…

Bradford Using PSPOs To Tackle Catcalling…
In Bradford, a proactive approach to tackling harassment against women who are out exercising has been implemented. Under the legal framework of the Public Spaces Protection Order, fines of up to £1,000 can now be levied against individuals found guilty of catcalling and harassing women while they run. This initiative underscores the versatility of tools available to address a spectrum of behaviours impacting local communities. Superintendent Beth Pagnillo stressed the importance of ensuring women can exercise without fear, highlighting concerns over the normalisation of such behaviour and its restrictive effect on women’s freedom. By employing plain-clothed officers in ‘hotspot areas’, collaborating with running clubs, and engaging with park runs, this initiative aims to empower women to report incidents while raising awareness about the issue.
Janine’s Thoughts: This is a great example of the versatility that utilising ASB tools can have on creating safe communities and one which will be popular with local residents. Another great example of this is the implementation of Trojan buses in Northumbria… Seeing innovative approaches to tackling ASB should be really encouraged to create meaningful impact.
This Weeks Insight
Tackling Business Crime with Preventative ASB Policy
The National Business Crime Centre (NBCC) Month of Action comes to a conclusion this week, closing out four weeks of activities amongst different agencies to tackle the issue of business crime, and of course we wanted to highlight the role of ASB policy as part of this. We have created this article, aimed at businesses predominantly to offer essential insights and strategies to tackle ASB effectively. In the article we explore proactive measures and preventative policies designed to safeguard businesses and communities alike. From community engagement to employee training, we review options on how to create safer, more resilient environments in line with the NBCC’s mission. Do you know a business leader that would benefit from this article? Feel free to share it so that we can help more organisations with reducing business crime from ASB.
We are always looking for guest contributors to give original and timely perspectives on ASB policy for our newsletter and website – if you are interested in collaborating then hit reply and let us know what topic you could provide value to our audience on.
Have a great week,
Darren & Janine
