Survey Launched: Housing Providers Responding to Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse
Addressing Domestic Abuse has launched a brief, anonymous survey aimed at improving responses to domestic abuse. Commissioned by the Drive Partnership, this survey seeks to gather information on whether current housing policies include provisions for perpetrators of domestic abuse. Your input will help develop standardised principles and guidance for a sustainable perpetrator housing response across the country. This aligns with the Regulator of Social Housing’s requirement for a domestic abuse policy in the Neighbourhood and Community Consumer Standard. Your participation is important in helping to shape a comprehensive approach to domestic abuse in housing.
Police Shut Down Dessert Shop Over Serious Exploitation Concerns

A dessert shop in Cambridgeshire has been closed for three months following a closure order issued by Peterborough Magistrates’ Court. The order granted was based on concerns over child sexual exploitation, child criminal exploitation, and organised criminal activity, including county lines drug operations.
Cambridgeshire Police’s decision to close Dessert Central stems from ongoing investigations into these serious issues, alongside reports of frequent anti-social behaviour and violence associated with the premises. The closure aims to disrupt criminal activity and safeguard vulnerable individuals. During this period, access to the property is restricted to emergency services only, with unlawful entry subject to arrest.

Janine’s thoughts: The recent closure of this dessert shop highlights the effective use of ASB powers in supporting with addressing serious issues such as child sexual exploitation, child criminal exploitation, and organised crime. This decisive action by Cambridgeshire Police not only aims to disrupt criminal activities but also supports efforts to safeguard vulnerable individuals and enhance community safety. It highlights the crucial role of collaborative approaches involving law enforcement, local authorities, and community stakeholders in tackling complex societal challenges effectively.
Learning Disability Week – Don’t Mistake It With Learning Difficulties!
An important challenge we’ve encountered in discussions with ASB practitioners is distinguishing between learning disabilities and learning difficulties. These terms are frequently interchanged, yet they carry distinct implications for addressing ASB:
Learning Disabilities refer to conditions affecting cognitive processing and learning new skills. Individuals may struggle with tasks like reading, writing, or interpreting social cues due to difficulties in understanding and memory. Those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or those with a Specific Language Impairment (SLI) would be classified as having a learning disability.
Learning Difficulties, in contrast, encompass a broader spectrum of challenges such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, or ADHD. These conditions can affect specific areas of learning or behaviour, influencing how individuals interact in social contexts. Understanding these distinctions is vital in ASB management. People with learning disabilities may inadvertently engage in behaviours perceived as ASB due to communication barriers or misunderstandings. Those with learning difficulties might exhibit behaviours stemming from frustration or sensory sensitivities. This month our partner Janine is hosting a free webinar to explore the impact of the learning difficulty ADHD on ASB. Sign up to hear from experts in the field and explore how this could impact your current case load and how you work with people affected by ADHD.

Loneliness Awareness Week – Practical Tips To Support You
Last week was Loneliness Awareness Week and we shared a post on LinkedIn (don’t forget to follow our company page if you are not already) regarding how loneliness can affect perception when it comes to ASB reporting. After a great response to the post we thought it would be useful to expand out on the theme and create an article with practical tips on how you can manage cases where loneliness is a factor. Check it out and let us know your thoughts on this – is it something that you frequently experience in your role?
That is it for us for now – keep your eyes peeled for the official launch of the conference and don’t forget to share on LinkedIn when you are signed up!
