ASB Careers Series – Emma Standing
Our ASB Careers Series continues with a fantastic and inspiring contribution from Emma Standing, ASB Team Manager at Yorkshire Housing.
Emma shares how her career path took her from serving in the Army to specialising in tenancy enforcement, balancing housing work with frontline policing as a Special Constable. She reflects on the importance of resilience, empathy, and continual learning, and gives honest, practical advice for anyone thinking of stepping into the ASB sector.

ASB Themes in Latest Regulator Of Social Housing Inspections
The Regulator of Social Housing has published new inspection reports this week, and several recurring themes emerged relating to anti-social behaviour. Key areas of focus included:
- Providing accessible and varied methods for reporting ASB
- Ensuring websites clearly outline how ASB is reported and managed
- Having a robust ASB policy in place, backed by evidence of effective implementation
- Active involvement in partnership initiatives to prevent and address ASB
- Collecting and monitoring ASB data, including specifically identifying hate incidents
- Applying victim risk assessments consistently
- Encouraging tenant involvement in scrutinising and improving ASB services
- Ensuring strong management oversight and supervision of ASB casework
These themes serve as a reminder of the standards expected across the sector – both in policy and in day-to-day service delivery.
Waste Crime – On the Radar
This week’s parliamentary proceedings also included several items relating to waste crime and environmental enforcement.
For more detailed updates and analysis on this, we recommend following Sarah Bradley from Consilium Training and Support, who continue to share specialist insight in this area.

Celebrating One Year of G&B ASB With A Top Tip On Partnerships
Last week marked one year since G&B ASB Associates was formed – and we’re so grateful for all the kind messages and support that you have sent and shown on social media. It’s been a brilliant year of growth, learning and collaboration.
At the heart of our work is one clear principle: Partnership.
So, for this week’s Top Tip, we’re sharing advice from partners Janine and Darren that goes right to the heart of what effective partnership working really means:
“When trying to build strong partnership links, identifying mutual objectives is key. Sometimes the reason why we may be struggling to engage with another organisation is because they may feel like we are working at odds with each other.
For example, if you are finding it challenging for the youth justice team to consult with you in relation to youth ASB, could it be because there is a misunderstanding that you are trying to evict or criminalise the young person?
As ASB practitioners our objective is often to prevent further ASB through support and early intervention, aiming to keep and sustain tenancies and/or keep someone out of the criminal justice system. The very same objectives as our partners.
Is it time to try and rebuild a lost partnership? Perhaps this can be achieved by learning more about each other and identifying those mutual objectives and highlighting the benefits of working together to achieve them.”
The theme of partnership will take centre stage at this year’s #ASB11 Conference – with speakers, sessions and workshops focused on what truly collaborative working looks like in practice. Reminder – As a newsletter subscriber, you’re eligible for an exclusive discounted ticket rate. If you haven’t booked yet, don’t miss out – we’d love to see you there.
Janine & Darren’s Round Up
It’s been another full on week here at G&B HQ so we were very glad of the Bank Holiday to be able to take a pause.
We’ve loved seeing the response to our one-year milestone – from both of us we want to say thank you again – and say that it’s been a great reminder of how central partnership working is to everything we do. Which is exactly why partnerships are the focus for this year’s #ASB11 Conference. If you haven’t grabbed your discounted subscriber ticket yet, don’t leave it too long – we’d love to see you there.
If your organisation needs support – from policy creation and case reviews to training, mentoring or strategic advice – know that we, along with our brilliant team of associates, are ready to help. Drop us an email or visit the website for more information.
Have a great week,
Janine & Darren
