ASB In The News
This week’s media headlines continue to highlight the impact of ASB on communities, the role of enforcement, and the importance of prevention. From closure orders and dispersal zones to CCTV successes and targeted interventions, agencies are using a range of strategies to tackle persistent ASB.
A major media moment this week saw the Deputy CEO of ASB, Charlie Hamilton-Kay appear on BBC Breakfast, where she raised awareness about the real impact ASB has on victims. The discussion reinforced the need for better victim support, stronger enforcement, and more effective prevention strategies.
The BBC also reported on a couple who captured months of ASB on their doorbell camera, providing clear evidence of the distress that ongoing ASB can cause. This case highlights the importance of listening to victims and responding swiftly before issues escalate.
On the enforcement side, we’ve seen closure orders issued in Norfolk, Bridlington, and Kings Lynn, helping to disrupt long-term ASB issues in residential properties. Dispersal zones have also been introduced in Leeds, Gateshead, Scarborough, and Surrey to curb problematic behaviour.
Meanwhile, Nottinghamshire has reported a drop in ASB incidents due to CCTV monitoring, demonstrating how technology can play a key role in preventing and responding to ASB in real time. A Prevention Hub in Nottingham is also successfully diverting young people from ASB, showing the importance of early intervention in breaking the cycle of offending.

Catalyst Shares a Powerful Video Story on Cuckooing
A short film published by Catalyst Support offers a real-life insight into cuckooing – a form of criminal exploitation where offenders take over the homes of vulnerable people to carry out illegal activities.
Told through the experience of Steven, a cuckooing victim, the video highlights the manipulation, fear, and loss of control that many experience when their home is no longer a place of safety. It serves as an important reminder of how coercion and intimidation can leave victims feeling powerless, and why early intervention and safeguarding are essential.
For ASB and community safety professionals, this film is a valuable resource for understanding the hidden nature of cuckooing, recognising the signs, and taking action to safeguard victims.
