9 Weeks to #ASB11 – Putting the Victim’s Voice at the Heart of Partnerships
When it comes to tackling anti-social behaviour, the most powerful partnerships are those that start by truly listening to the people affected.
This week, with thanks to ASB Help, we are sharing real-life case studies that show what happens when victims are given a platform – and what can happen when they are not.
Take Martine’s story: after months of sleepless nights, financial strain and emotional exhaustion caused by a neighbour’s behaviour, it was only through an ASB Case Review that her voice was finally heard – leading to a solution that supported both victim and perpetrator.
Or Bill’s experience, where the language used by practitioners shaped his trust, safety and engagement. His story is a reminder that the words we choose can either validate or dismiss – and that every agency in the partnership plays a part in building (or breaking) trust.
And there’s the street in Gloucestershire, where neighbours worked together, documented incidents and used the ASB Case Review to secure a 12-month injunction against persistent harassment. For them, simply having a voice was as important as the legal outcome.
At the #ASB11 Conference, we will be tackling these issues head-on in two dedicated sessions:
- The Victim Voice – chaired by Charlie Hamilton Kay from ASB Help, this session will explore upcoming legislative changes aimed at strengthening the victim voice, including Local Policing Board Case Reviews and the evolving role of the Victims’ Commissioner, alongside lived experience from residents.
- The Art of Conversation – a multi-perspective discussion featuring specialists and those with lived experience, exploring how to handle difficult conversations, manage expectations, resolve conflict and use language that builds trust rather than erodes it. Chaired by Matt Baird from The Social Housing Round Table, this session will give you practical tips, real-world examples and tested approaches you can take back to your own caseloads and partnership meetings the very next day.
These stories and sessions show that partnership is not just about agencies working with each other – it is about agencies working with victims as equal partners in the process.
Join us at #ASB11 to hear directly from those leading change in this space, share your own experiences, and take away practical strategies for building victim-led, trauma-informed partnerships that make a real difference. Every delegate pack will also include an exclusive hard copy of the guidance ASB Help published during ASB Awareness Week, so you can take the learning straight back to your team and embed it into your service delivery.
